The Prime Minister must make sure that the UK does not become a political and economic puppet of the United States. Up till now, our close relationship with the rest of Europe has prevented huge increases in American influence and control of Britain's economy and institutions. From 2021 onwards, Mr Johnson will have to demonstrate that US influence over our National Health Service, our defence forces, our foreign and trade policies, etc is not going to increase. US President Trump is currently exploiting Brexit to use the UK in his new cold war against China. If we truly wish to trade with the whole world, we cannot afford to become a puppet of Washington.
